State troopers discovered the cultivated pot near Lake Lavon.

State troopers have uncovered a marijuana crop in Collin County.

Troopers found the pot growing off Highway 380 in a wooded area west of Lake Lavon. A Department of Public Safety helicoptor looking for marijuana crops found it while on patrol late Friday morning.

"It's a routine operation we do every summer throughout Texas," Trooper Lonny Haschel said. "The Department of Public Safety Criminal Intelligence Division does that just as an annual part of what they do, their normal job duties, to combat that illicit drug trafficking and keep the citizens here in Texas safe."

Investigators are not saying exactly where or how big the crop is.

Haschel said he does not know who owns the property. DPS is still investigating.
