City Sues Dallas Auto Mechanic Over Rezoning Order

The city of Dallas is suing the owner of an auto repair shop who has been fighting for years to keep his business open.

The city council voted 11 years ago to rezone the neighborhood where Hinga Mbogo runs his auto repair shop, Hinja Automotive, on Ross Avenue.

The rezoning meant the shop had to shut down, but Mbogo refused.

An agreement allowed Mbogo to keep the shop open, but that permit expired last August.

Now the city wants him to pay $1,000 for each day he has kept the shop open since then. So far, that tallies more than $300,000.
