Assault Led to Hurst 3-Year-Old's Death: ME

Hurst police say investigators do not know if the deadly hit to the stomach that killed a 3-year-old girl happened Friday or earlier.

Police said the father of Anastasia Williams discovered the 3-year-old dead in her bedroom Friday and called 911.

Assistant Police Chief Richard Winstanley said investigators are working to establish a better timeline of who was in and out of the apartment on Cullum Avenue this week.

Hurst police are coordinating their investigation with Child Protective Services and the Tarrant County medical examiner.

Winstanley said the medical examiner’s office is still working to determine how the fatal blow happened and when it occurred.

The autopsy report stated Williams died of a cut to the liver due to blunt trauma to the abdomen. The report ruled it was not accidental but was the result of an assault.

A man who identified himself as Williams' father spoke with NBC 5 on Monday morning but did not provide his name when he answered the door.

“Just let me have time to get, to handle this," he said. "I’ll deal with all this.

He said he was grief-stricken over the loss of his daughter.

“It’s unexplainable. It’s unexplainable," he said.

The man declined to provide a photo of Williams.

Police are not calling Williams’ father a suspect, so his name hasn’t been released by investigators. He lives at the apartment with his girlfriend.

When asked if he had any idea how the trauma to her stomach occurred, the man who identified himself as her father said, “No, we don’t. And at the moment, that’s all I got to say right now. Thank you."
