18th Century Cabin Rides to New Home in Denton

Drivers in Denton may have caught an odd sight Tuesday morning: an 18th century log cabin rolling along the Interstate 35E frontage road on a truck bed.

The Denton County Office of History and Culture spent the morning moving the cabin from its original home in Corinth to their historic park near downtown Denton.

The cabin may be one of the oldest existing structures in the county, and in North Texas for that matter, said history office director Peggy Riddle.

Dating back to 1868, the cabin was built by William Wilson, of Indiana, who moved to Denton County in 1854 and bought the property where the structure would be built.

Denton County Commissioner Andy Eads said the cabin was actually still inhabited until 1991, and the owners decided to donate it to the county.

The cabin will be restored and placed on a new, permanent foundation at the historic park on the corner of Carroll Boulevard and Mulberry Street in Denton.
