Will McClay & Co. Gearing Up For May 8

McClay was promoted to assistant director of player personnel last June

Last June, Will McClay was promoted from director of football research to assistant director of player personnel, which makes him the senior most personnel guy not named or related to Jerry Jones. In May, McClay will have his first draft in his new position and he’s looking to find, if not hidden gems, players that can come in and play a role for the team.

As executive vice president Stephen Jones points out, McClay has a track record of pulling this off.

"Everything equates in looking at talent," Jones said, per ESPN Dallas. "He found some really unique guys in the arena league and then of course when he was back in scouting. He has had a passion for it, and it just seems like every step of the way he's done a good job for us. I commend him on the job he did finding guys like [George] Selvie and [Nick] Hayden, people like that. People that everybody had a shot at, but he brought them in."

According to McClay, he and the staff are logging 15-18 hour days at Valley Ranch in anticipation of the opening of the 2014 NFL Draft on May 8.

“This is our gameday,” McClay said. “And we want to try to leave no stone unturned.”
