Marinelli a Big Factor in McClain Coming to Dallas

It’s no secret that the presence of Rod Marinelli’s presence in Dallas helped the Cowboys land defensive tackle Henry Melton, who went to a Pro Bowl under Marinelli in 2012 when both were with the Bears. Apparently, Melton wasn’t the only defensive player who was drawn to the Cowboys this offseason, at least in part, because of their respect for Marinelli.

In an interview with Sirius XM’s NFL Radio over the weekend, defensive tackle Terrell McClain was asked how much of a factor the defensive coordinator played in his decision to sign a three-year deal with Dallas in early March.

It factored in a lot,” McClain said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He actually came down to my pro day and actually did the drills at my pro day three years ago when I was coming out of college, so I had a chance to talk to him. He was telling me all about himself. He’s a great guy, a great coach and I’m really fortunate to be able to be coached by him the next three years.”

After three seasons with the Panthers, the Patriots and the Texans, McClain comes to town with 29 career tackles and a sack.
