Bryce Harper Wears Cowboys Hat, Angers Washington

As you might have heard, Washington and Dallas have a bit of a rivalry going on

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper has joined Miami Heat forward LeBron James as a member of the “star athletes who have angered their home fans due to their apparent fandom of the Dallas Cowboys” club.

Harper, who is on the disabled list, was recently photographed with a fan while wearing a Dallas Cowboys hat. The photo surfaced on Twitter--you can see it, and the ensuing comments here--and, since a great many Nats fans are also fans of the Redskins, he took some heat over his choice of headwear.

The reactions ranged from disbelief (“I know that’s not a Star on your head”) to anger (one fan suggested Harper leave Washington for Dallas) to disgust (one fan offered that the photo made him “want to vomit”). Then there were, inevitably, some Cowboys fans who encouraged Harper’s hat choice.

It’s all quite reminiscent of when LeBron--still a member of the Cavaliers, at the time--angered the Cleveland faithful (and some Browns players) by hanging out with Tony Romo and co. before a Cowboys-Browns game in Cleveland. James never backed down from his love of the Cowboys though, and has actually become more visible as a fan over recent years.

We’ll see if Harper will be as bold.
