Mr. Durability Now Set to Skip Start

Of course Cole Hamels is battling an injury.

It makes total sense. Even as the model of durability over his career in Philadelphia, Hamels has now been traded to Texas where injuries just seem to happen at an alarming rate.

Hamels will skip his scheduled start on Thursday with a sore groin he suffered in his Saturday start in Seattle. He told reporters he felt the groin problem in the fourth inning before working through two more innings. In that start, he allowed three homers.

"It was pretty easy to see what happened," Hamels told the Dallas Morning News.

It's a prudent move for the Rangers to skip a start for Hamels, as they'll bring up either Chi Chi Gonzalez or Anthony Ranaudo to make Thursday's start. Better to let Hamels rest for a week than try to pitch him and have something significant develop. As of now, the team doesn't expect him to need a trip to the disabled list.

Hopefully, the prognosis stays that way and Hamels is back next week to pitch at home against the Mariners.
