MLB Updates Pace-of-Play Rules

Are you ready to see Jeff Banister sprint to the mound from the dugout?

Yes? Yeah, me too.

That's going to be somewhat of a reality in 2016 as the MLB Players Association and the league announced some new rules to improve pace of play in the game for the upcoming season.

One is just an update, as the clock that was instituted last year to time the break between innings was reduced by 20 seconds, which is fairly significant.

But the biggest change will be the good ol' mound visit by a pitching coach or the manager, as there will be a 30-second countdown on the visit that will start as soon as the pitching coach or manager steps foot out of the dugout. That means no more methodical, calm walk out to the mound for Banister, but instead means he better hit up the Michael Johnson Performance Center to work on that 40 time.

It'll make mound visits a little more interesting, anyway.
