Maddux Again Strong Managerial Candidate

Last winter, the Chicago Cubs heavily pursued Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux for their open managerial spot, and one of the highest paid pitching coaches in baseball seriously considered it before pulling his name out of the running.

This winter, the Rangers might not be so lucky as the Cubs once again have an opening at manager and once again are showing interest in Maddux.

Maddux has cemented his name near the top of the list in the league in regards to pitching coaches, starting his career in Milwaukee when they broke through and won the NL Central a few years ago, and has further cemented it in Texas, where he's helped change a culture and develop a successful pitching staff in a place where no one was supposed to be able to pitch successfully.

Maddux, 52, is of course the older brother of future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, who is a special assistant to the GM for the Rangers. The Cubs have also been rumored to be interested in the younger Maddux, but have actually already asked the Rangers permission to talk to Mike.
