In the tradition of Clint Stoerner winning the now defunct Arena Football League's Rookie of the Year Award after a fairly forgettable stint with the Cowboys, another former Dallas quarterback has found success after departing the NFL, and some hardware to prove it.
Brooks Bollinger, who you may remember, made two appearances for the Dallas Cowboys last season after jumping Brad Johnson on the depth chart--one, when Tony Romo was injured against the Giants and another, when all hope was lost, against Philadelphia in week 17--has won the upstart UFL's MVP award for its inaugural season as a member of the Florida Tuskers.
Bollinger threw for 1,825 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Tuskers, while surrendering just three interceptions. He led the team to a perfect 6-0 record in the regular season, only to be beaten in the league championship game by the Las Vegas Locomotives, on an overtime field goal.
Matt Bryant, a teammate of Bollinger's in Florida, has already signed a contract cementing a return to the NFL, to kick for the Atlanta Falcons; and more pilfering of the UFL rosters may occur before it's all said and done. However, the league's inaugural season wasn't exactly an image of immediate prosperity.
The UFL lost upwards of $30 million, and drew a meager crowd of 15,000 for the championship game in Las Vegas.
