Cowboys Showing Interest in Baylor's Petty

The Cowboys are starting to toss around the idea of getting into the conversation of possibly drafting a quarterback at some point soon to be groomed and eventually replace Tony Romo when he's finally had enough.

Cowboys quarterback coach Wade Wilson attended the workout and left impressed after the Midlothian graduate completed 69 of 77 pass attempts, and that included five drops from his receivers of his nine incompletions.

“He was real solid,” Wilson said after the workout in The Dallas Morning News. “You know, he demonstrated he could make all the throws, which is necessary to play in the league. He had good touch. Every time you see him, he’s a little more fluid dropping back under center.”

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Petty as the No. 3 quarterback in the upcoming draft, behind first-round projections Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.

In Baylor's insane offense, which doesn't really translate to the NFL for a quarterback, he was still very impressive, throwing for 62 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with just more than 8,000 yards in his career while leading the Bears to back-to-back Big 12 titles.
