Going into his second season in the NFL, J.J. Wilcox is seemingly being groomed as the frontrunner for the starting safety position opposite Barry Church. From what heโs seen over the first week of OTAs, Church believes the Georgia Southern product is ready for the challenge.
โHeโs making leaps and bounds,โ Church said this week, per the Dallas Morning News. โI feel like heโll make a big leap in his second year. Heโs moving to free safety this year and I feel like heโs going to do a great job at it.โ
Wilcox said earlier this week that the team wants him to take on a leadership role in the Cowboysโ secondary and, when the team gathered for the first round of OTAs on Tuesday, he was out there with the first team defense.
โIt tells me that I have to be on my game,โ Wilcox said. โTo know that they have the respect for me to put [me with the first team], I want to show them that itโs going to pay off.โ
