An Australian man brought gaming addiction to a whole new level last week when he broke the Guinness world record for longest "Call of Duty" session by playing the hit for more than five and a half days.
Okan Kaya, 28, of Sydney, played the new "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" game for 135 hours and 50 minutes, surpassing the previous 120-hour record, the U.K. Daily Mail reported.
Kaya, a sales manager for online retailer 4Cabling, was allowed a 10-minute break every hour, but stored many of them up to sleep for several hours at a time. He even had to bandage his hands to keep them from cramping up, the Mail said.
A Taiwanese teen died earlier this year after playing a video game for 40 consecutive hours, The Australian reported. Another gaming-related death happened in 2011, when a Chinese man lost consciousness after playing for three days straight, according to the BBC.
A record-breaking 8 million copies of the game were sold during its opening day last Tuesday, making it the biggest entertainment launch of the year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
