Computer Virus Raids Bank Accounts Silently

An elaborate new computer virus not only helps fraudsters steal from bank accounts -- it also covers its tracks. The latest version of the widely prevalent SpyEye Trojan horse swaps out banking Web pages rather than video, preventing account holders from noticing their money is gone. Israeli security firm Trusteer calls it a "post transaction" attack. Much of the virus' effectiveness is due to its ability to control what victims see after fraudulent transactions. Amit Klein, chief technology officer for Trusteer, says criminals have used the technique for a few months.
