Thief Runs Off With $29K Diamond: Police

Police say a jewelry thief ran out of a Mansfield jewelry store with a diamond valued at just under $29,000.

Offices arrived at the Fred Myer Jewelers, inside the Kroger at 3300 East Broad Street before 11 a.m. last Wednesday (Jan. 6).

Employees of the store told police the man walked in and began looking at diamonds on display, according to Michael Midkiff, police spokesman.

One diamond in particular caught the man's eye - valued at $28,995. The man grabbed the diamond out of the employee's hand and ran away, Midkiff said in a written statement.

Store employees described the thief as being in his late 20's to early 30's, at about five-foot 10-inches tall, with a slim build and a goatee.

Investigators suspect the man could be driving a Ford Expedition SUV.
