Dallas police said they arrested one man after a hit-and-run wreck left a man dead Thursday night.
Police said they arrived at the scene of the wreck near South Buckner Boulevard and Elam Road at 10:19 p.m. and found the deceased 54-year-old deceased pedestrian lying in the road.
Witnesses told police that three adults and three children fled from the vehicle that hit the pedestrian — a black 2007 Ford Crown Victoria — toward a nearby Dallas Area Rapid Transit station. Police said officers found the six people and arrested the driver, 26-year-old Avery Gardner.
Police said the vehicle was heading south on Buckner Boulevard at a high rate of speed. Witnesses told police that the driver was trying to race another vehicle, ran a red light at the Elam Road intersection and then hit the pedestrian.
Gardner faces charges of manslaughter and failure to step and render aid, police said.
