One election wrapped up in Tarrant County Thursday as the Fort Worth Zoo announced the winning name of its baby gorilla.
The newest male lowland gorilla — listed as critically endangered — was officialy named Augustus, "Gus," Thursday morning.
Zoo officials had narrowed hundreds of nominations down to four:
- Mosi - Swahili for first born. Also a blend of his parents' names, Elmo and Gracie.
- Grover - A Sesame Street name, like his father
- Crockett - After Davy Crockett
- Augustus - Meaning great, or magnificent.
The public was able to vote for the baby's name through Wednesday.
