An Austin-area man who represented himself at trial for 13 jewel robberies and attempted robberies has been found guilty of multiple counts.
Jurors found Marvin Lewis guilty Friday of 25 counts ranging from conspiracy to weapons violations in a federal trial in Austin. Lewis faces up to life in federal prison when he's sentenced Sept. 13.
Prosecutors say Lewis, who held no legitimate employment, used the proceeds from his heists to support a lavish lifestyle that included $200,000 sports cars and attending Oscar and Emmy award after-parties.
The Austin American-Statesman reports that Lewis, after dispensing with his court-appointed attorney, directed such remarks as "crooked" and "shut up" at the trial judge, U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel.
