Dallas Fire-Rescue crews were called to the 14000 block of Brookgreen Drive, just north of Interstate 635 and U.S. Highway 75, where a construction crew struck a gas line.
Some nearby homes and apartments were evacuated, impacting approximately 100 people, according to Jason Evans with Dallas Fire-Rescue.
They were allowed to return to their homes by about 8:45 p.m. after there were no reports of gas inside the residences or gas registering on monitors at ground level outside, Evans said.
Atmos workers were called to repair the leak, and some firefighters will remain at the location until Atmos has completed its work.
