Interstate 27 north of Lubbock is closed after a major dust storm has caused at least five crashes that have killed one person and injured 17 others, KCBD- TV reports.
KCBD-TV reports that all lanes, northbound and southbound, are closed at Exit 13 near Abernathy due to a multi-car crash.
Wind gusts hitting 45 mph have reduced visibility in some parts to near zero.
The Texas Department of Transportation is "strongly discouraging" travel in the 120-mile corridor between Lubbock and Amarillo.
The storm has also dropped power lines, cutting electricity to about 1,000 people in the area.
