Dallas Pilot Tried to Smuggle in Nearly $200,000 in Cash: Prosecutors

Federal prosecutors say a commercial airline pilot tried to smuggle in nearly $200,000 in undeclared currency at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Anthony Warner was charged with bulk cash smuggling and making false statements. The 55-year-old Dallas resident was arrested Sunday, shortly after arriving as a passenger on a flight from Mumbai, India.

Prosecutors said Warner had $195,736 that was wrapped in newspaper. He also allegedly had 10 rings, four sets of earrings and other assorted jewelry of undetermined value.

United Airlines confirmed that Warner is a pilot for them and released the following statement.

"This is a federal investigation and we are cooperating with the authorities."

Warner was released on a $100,000 bond. He could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted on both counts.

A telephone number for Warner could not be located Monday. He's being represented by the federal public defender's office, which normally declines comment on its clients.
