Pieces from the Wright brothers' 1903 Flyer that Neil Armstrong took with him to the moon have sold for about $890,000 at an auction of memorabilia that belonged to the astronaut.
They were among items Heritage Auctions offered Thursday that were owned by Armstrong, the first human to set foot on the moon. The Flyer was the first successful heavier-than-air powered aircraft. Pieces from it that sold included a swatch of wing fabric.
Also, the largest American flag flown on the Apollo 11 lunar module sold for $93,750.
The auction house is holding a series of auctions featuring items belonging to Armstrong, who died in his native Ohio in 2012. In Thursday's auction, his items brought in more than $2.3 million.
The next auction from Armstrong's collection will be in July.
