It may be the first time that Jennifer Aniston and beau John Mayer have been so close to Aniston's ex-husband Brad Pitt and the mother of his children Angelina Jolie.
Aniston and Mayer were not present on the red carpet but they were shown in the audience at the Kodak Theater for the Academy Awards ceremony.
Aniston and Mayer said some 12 seats away from Pitt and Jolie.

When Jenn took the stage with Jack Black to present the award for Best Animated Feature both couples showed they could rise above—especially when cameras are on them.
Aniston seemed a little awkward (obviously it can't be easy to look into the audience and see your ex and the mother of his children) but she got through it and managed a smile in Brad's direction, and when she made a pre-written joke, a cutaway showed Angelina smiling and laughing along with the rest of the audience.
Later in the night when Angelina's name was announced as a nominee for Best Actress and Brad's name was announced as a nominee for Best Actor, Jenn and John were shown clapping for them.
Sadly, the rumors of standoffs and fights and bickering will probably continue in the tabloids, but at least there were no dirty looks or crazy incidents at the Oscars. (remember the look on Justin Timberlake's face when Britney kissed Madonna? We saw that about 100 times on gossip shows as proof JT was jealous)
