Look Out for Goose-nappers, City Says After Several Birds Disappear From White Rock Lake

A goose-napper may be on the loose around White Rock Lake.More than 10 domesticated geese have reportedly been taken from the flock that hangs out at Sunset Bay, on the shores of the lake, according to a post Friday on the Save White Rock Lake Facebook. In one incident, someone at the park witnessed a person ring the neck of a goose and stuff it into a maroon SUV, according to the post. Charles Fussell, one of the caregivers that tends to the flock, told Facebook poster Ben Sandifer that the alleged thefts have taken place in the last few weeks. Fussell has been known to buy geese from dealers and re-home them at White Rock, according to the Lake Highlands Advocate. Among those missing from the flock are "Tiny," who also goes by "Mister Marymack," "Roger," and "Checkers," the post states.The Dallas Park and Recreation Department said it is aware of the reports of disappearing geese and encourages people to call 911 if they witness the theft or abuse of animals on park property. "Dallas Park and Recreation proactively engages in conserving our city's native wildlife and flora, green spaces, and ecosystems," department assistant director Oscar Carmona said in a prepared statement. "The Department continually asks the community's help in protecting the city's ecological systems and the health of the flora and fauna on park property."This is not the first time something been afoul with the Sunset Bay goose gang.   Continue reading...
