Dallas' Top Dogs

AKC Ranks Top 10 Breeds in Largest U.S. Cities

The Labrador retriever ranks No.1 again as the breed of choice for people nationwide, according to the American Kennel Association.

The AKC released its annual list of the most popular breeds, based on the number of AKC registrations, on Wednesday.

The German Sheppard is No. 2 on Dallas' list and is followed by the Golden Retriever.

"The belief that everything is bigger in Texas holds true for the Dallas registration statistics this year," AKC spokeswoman Lisa Peterson said in a news release. "Smaller breeds like the Yorkie and Cavalier have moved down the list, while the German Shepherd (up two spots from 2007) and Bulldog (up six spots from 2007) have gained popularity."

Yorkshire Terriers have taken the No. 4 spot on the 2008 list.
