Tornado Rips Roof from Arlington Nursing Home

131 residents displaced by tornado

An apparent tornado clipped off part of the wing of an Arlington nursing home, displacing 131 residents and staff but causing just two minor injuries.

The wind slammed into the Green Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center near Lake Arlington in the southwestern part of the city Tuesday.

Assistant Arlington Fire Chief Jim Self said Green Oaks staff moved residents form the wings to the protected central part of the home.

Self said the two injured persons were transported to hospitals, while the others were being moved to other area nursing homes. He said he knew of no other injuries in the city of almost 400,000 residents.

He said two tornadoes apparently hit the city with damage ranging from downed power lines and tree limbs to homes destroyed.
