Tornado Threat Ends for Much of North Texas; Storms Continue Moving East

Large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes were a concern in storms Wednesday afternoon and evening

NBC Universal, Inc.

Morning drizzle and fog is possible across North Texas, but yesterday’s storms are gone. Clouds will gradually diminish later today, allowing for midday sunshine. It will remain cool, however, thanks to a northwest wind. This afternoon and evening will be dry.

Thunderstorms brought heavy rain and some hail Wednesday to North Texas, but the worst of the storms stayed south in parts of Central Texas thanks to less-favorable conditions for development in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The Storm Prediction Center had the DFW area included in a Marginal/Level 1 threat for severe weather. A Slight/Level 2 to Enhanced/Level 3 threat shifted south of the DFW area Wednesday afternoon. Those areas saw large hail, damaging winds and several tornado warnings.

A Tornado Watch issued for portions of North Texas Wednesday afternoon expired before 10 p.m. after storms weakened.

A River Flood Warning is also in effect for five North Texas counties including Dallas, Hunt, Kaufman, Red River and Rockwall. See details on the latest severe weather alerts, including specific river flood warnings, here.

Locally heavy rain posed a threat for some flooding, mainly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Remember if you encounter a flooded road: turn around, don't drown.

I know it’s like midnight. But we don’t get many storms that bring hailstorms and this size of hail. So yes I got my boots in as fast as I could with a coat and picked up this handful of hail about the size of large marbles or a smidge larger than a quarter 🪙
