When Troy Aikman stars in a current beer commercial he speaks not only for himself, but all Cowboys fans.
Let’s be honest, we all “dwell in the past.”
And, because of that, when the former quarterback with three Super Bowl rings talks, we listen. As if it were gospel.
Apple has Siri. IBM has Watson. Windows has Cortana. GPS has that annoying woman who loves the process of “recalculating.” And the Cowboys? Yep, they still have Troy.
I’d say that outside of Jerry Jones – or maybe even still Jimmy Johnson – no Cowboys’ voice resonates stronger with fans than the last man to lead them to a championship.
So when he comes out in an interview with SI.com and makes a bold claim about the future of the team’s quarterbacks, it generates a buzz. If you’re a fan or work with a Cowboys fan, almost assuredly you’ve already been posed this frantic question today.
“Didja hear what Troy said?!”

What ol’ No. 8 said was the earthquake. What he did was cause aftershocks that will likely be felt deep into the offseason and up to the NFL Draft.
“I believe, as I sit here today, either Johnny Manziel or Robert Griffin III will be in Dallas as the backup,” Aikman said.
He didn't say he wanted them. He didn't say they were a good fit. But he said he believes one of them will wind up as Tony Romo's quarterback.
Cue the chaos.
As Fox’s lead analyst, Aikman is obviously still deeply entrenched in the NFL. He can pick up his cell and call Cowboys owner Jerry Jones 24/7 and get an answer. Add to that the fact that he’s not big on hyperbole – if he says it, there must be some credence – and Cowboys fans are now convinced they have a hot debate to warm a cold winter.
RG3 vs. Johnny Goofball. Because Troy said it, so it must be.
