Texas high school track stars descended on Austin this week to take part in the state meet. The DeSoto High School girls won their fifth straight Class 6A team state title, while Lancaster High School won the girls Class 5A team championship. Several area athletes took home individual gold medals -- including Denton Guyer's Brynn Brown, who broke her own state record in the 3,200 meter, and Grapevine's Walker St. John, who finished in first place despite losing a shoe.
