Three of the largest school districts in North Texas, the Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington independent school districts, are preparing for partial returns to virtual learning this week.
Tuesday, Dallas ISD kicked off its Virtual Academy with nearly 1,600 students under age 12.
According to the Dallas ISD, more than 500 students who were previously considered “no shows” this school year have enrolled in the virtual program.
Fort Worth ISD voted Tuesday night to start registration for its virtual option. The item passed with a unanimous vote during the consent agenda.

Registration will run from Aug. 25 through Aug. 29 with virtual classes starting Sept. 13.
The Fort Worth ISD virtual program is intended for students in kindergarten through sixth grade who have medical concerns or conditions.
Parents are able to visit a new website where the district will provide information about the virtual learning option.

In Arlington, the board of trustees approved a virtual program for students K-6 last week that will run temporarily and be evaluated after six weeks. The district closed enrollment on the program on Friday and expects to begin instruction on Wednesday.
