Tornadoes, Floods Strike North Texas

Severe thunderstorms kept North Texas on edge Thursday night, spawning several tornadoes over open land that caused scattered reports of light damage but no injuries.

As daylight faded, storm spotters spent the evening tracking tornadoes across several counties north and northwest of Dallas and Fort Worth.

Several barns were reported damaged and tree limbs and power lines were downed.

New Fairview

One of the three tornadoes reported in North Texas caused extensive damage to homes in New Fairview.

An RV was blown away by the wind and a mobile home was split in to two, destroying a family's home and scattering their belongings near County Road 4421.[[303045951,C]]

Electricity has been restored in the area, and officials are working to clean up debris in the area.

Wise County sheriff's dispatcher Jeff Doughty said several mobile homes were damaged in the community and one minor injury was reported.

Police in Sanger said two homes had to be evacuated overnight, though no injuries were reported. Many roads in Sanger remained closed Friday morning because a risk of flooding.

Era Independent School District officials announced that all schools were closed Friday because of water damage in parts of some buildings and extensive flooding nearby.[[303056101,C]]
