Mesquite police said a 1999 Honda SUV heading south from Interstate 635 to westbound Interstate 30 collided with the guard rail, left the ramp and traveled across the grass onto I-30. The SUV came to rest in the 1900 block of I-30 after colliding with the HOV wall.
Two motorists had stopped to help the driver when a 2012 Fiat coupe heading west on I-30 crashed into the Honda and struck them, according to authorities.
Police said one of the motorists, 50-year-old Patrick Lewis, and the driver of the Honda, 32-year-old Stefanos Haileslassie, were transported to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas in critical condition.
The other motorist, 40-year-old Sherwin Lewis, was also transported to Baylor, but police did not release his condition.
Police said the driver of the Fiat, 35-year-old Nathan Harris, was not injured.
