Garland officers are pursuing a minivan that fled from officers Tuesday afternoon during an attempted traffic stop, police say. Officers initiated a traffic stop just before 3 p.m. near Avenue B in Garland. Officers made contact with the man but then he took off, leading police on a chase into Dallas, Lt. Pedro Barineau said. Police stopped the chase near East Northwest Highway and Ferndale Road, but the man kept driving. Aerial footage of the chase showed a blue minivan driving steadily along roads before pulling into a parking lot near Northwest Highway and Abrams Road about 4 p.m. He stopped the vehicle at a 7-Eleven, near the Medallion Center shopping center, sat inside for a few minutes and then walked into the store. Dallas police drove up to the scene and officers surrounded the man when he came back outside. He was quickly handcuffed and put into a squad car. Barineau did not say why the chase was terminated or what the traffic stop was reportedly for. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department was initially called to assist with the pursuit, but Garland police took over. Continue reading...
