Juan Carlos Chaoui is a bilingual journalist who speaks English and Spanish and joined NBC 5 in June 2026 as a Reporter Trainee.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Juan is a proud Cuban American.
Juan graduated from the University of Florida in May 2026 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. While at UF, he worked as a reporter and anchor for WUFT News, the PBS and NPR affiliate serving North Central Florida. He produced stories covering politics, public safety, environmental issues and community affairs. He also anchored First at Five and helped lead coverage of major news events, including elections, hurricanes and special broadcasts.
His work took him across Florida, covering hurricane recovery efforts, state politics, breaking news and feature stories. In 2024, he reported from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
As a student journalist, Juan earned national recognition through the Hearst Journalism Awards Program, placing in multiple television news competitions and advancing to the Hearst National Journalism Championships. He also received honors from the Broadcast Education Association and the Southeast Journalism Conference.
Before joining NBC 5, Juan interned with NBC News' Southern Bureau in Miami, working alongside producers and correspondents covering breaking news, politics and feature stories from across the region.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Juan is excited to call North Texas home and serve the communities of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
When he's not chasing stories, you can find Juan on the pickleball court, at a baseball game or exploring everything North Texas has to offer.
