Sun's UV Rays Get Through Year Round, Even in Cloudy February

Statistically February is the cloudiest month in North Texas. Even though the sun is shining today, more than half of the days so far this month have been cloudy. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has seen 14 mostly cloudy or overcast days and 11 of those days it rained. While you may have been missing the sun, UV rays have still been getting through. Up to 80% of the suns UV rays can pass through the clouds, with about 20% being reflected and sent back into space. Therefore, it is important to wear sunscreen every day, all year long. “UVA, UVB rays can be very harmful to the skin. Using sunscreen will not only protect it from the sun but is also important to fight the aging process,” said Louise Proulx, owner of Renew Beauty in Dallas. Louise recommends using a SPF of 40 or higher and states that the sunscreen in your make up is not enough. As we head into spring and summer the suns rays will be more direct as the earth tilts toward the sun.
