The seasonal “heat dome” of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere is taking hold over North Texas. NBC 5 Senior Meteorologist David Finfrock says this will keep the heat in place and divert rain chances away for the next week or more.

Although the majority of the forecast is focused on the heat and dry weather, we remain in a pattern that’s favorable for storms up in Oklahoma to drop south. Ongoing showers and thunderstorms in Oklahoma could trickle down toward our northern counties into Thursday morning before falling apart.

High temperatures are expected to be in the mid-90s this week, accompanied by a heat index of 100 to 103. NBC 5’s Chief Meteorologist Rick Mitchell says Tuesday and Wednesday will be breezy with a south wind gusting over 20 mph.
