Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware said prior to training camp that, after being held out of OTAs and mini-camp as he recovered from offseason shoulder surgery, he would be ready to go when training camp opened in Oxnard, CA. On Sunday, the first day of camp, Ware was good to his word.
“I feel 100 percent,” Ware told reporters, per the Dallas Morning News.
Ware never did miss a game in 2012, but it would have been hard to blame him if he did. Aside from the shoulder injury that would require surgery, Ware played through the home stretch while dealing with a painful, hyperextended elbow.
Even having played from Week 1-17 in 2012, his absence from offseason workouts left Ware eager to get back to work.
“To do everything, go out and play and feel whole again, it feels really good,” he said. “Once we put the pads on…there are no holds barred.”
For his part, head coach Jason Garrett hinted that he may hold off on putting Ware through a full practice. But this weekend, Garrett seemed confident that the outside linebacker-turned-defensive end was ready to jump back in the mix.
