“The Best Team in All of Sports”: Obama

The UConn Women's Basketball team has a very big fan in Washington: President Obama.

The Commander-in-Chief welcomed the National Champions to the White House Monday afternoon.

In the East Room, the President congratulated Tina Charles, Maya Moore and company on back-to-back championships and on the Huskies' second straight undefeated season.

"I want to point out this team has not lost a game since I was elected President," Obama joked.

Marveling at UConn's achievements over the past few years, Obama did not hold back his praise for the Huskies.  "I truly believed this was the best team in all of sports, any sport, any gender, by far," the President said.

And it's not just the team's commitment on the court that impressed Obama.  He made note of the fact that Coach Geno Auriemma's teams have had a 100 percent graduation rate over the past 25 years.

He also thanked the women for their charitable work, which included a trip to visit wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center Monday morning.

"As the father of two tall girls, who are also very cute and also do great work in the classroom, I'm just so glad that they've got all of you to look up to, and I thank you for it," Obama said.
