Tashard Choice Named Mean Green Running Backs Coach

Served In An Offensive Quality Control Role with North Texas Last Season

Former Cowboys running back Tashard Choice has a new gig, but isn’t leaving Denton.

Choice has been named the new running backs coach at North Texas. Head coach Seth Littrell made the official announcement on Friday. Choice spent last season in the quality control role with the Mean Green’s offense.

Prior to joining North Texas ahead of the 2017 season, Choice a part of the Cowboys coaching staff in 2016, working with the running backs during organized team activities and minicamp.

Led by senior Jeffery Wilson and redshirt freshman Nic Smith, the Mean Green ran for 2,280 yards and 28 touchdowns during the 2017 season. Wilson totaled a career-high 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns, while Smith averaged 5.0 yards per carry with 684 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

Throughout his NFL career, Choice rushed for 1,579 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also posting 574 yards receiving. He was a fourth round pick of the Cowboys in 2008 and played in Dallas from 2008-2011. Choice also played for the Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts during his career, which lasted through 2013.
