Stars Draw Blank on Power Play in Game 2

The Stars were 0-4 on the power play in the Game 2 loss to the Blues on Sunday

Stars coach Lindy Ruff didn’t necessarily agree with every call made in Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Blues, but he wasn’t about to complain about it on an afternoon that saw the Stars go 0-4 on the power play, and managed just four shots on goal with the advantage.

Game 2 ended with Antoine Roussel in the penalty box for interference, during the second power play of overtime for the Blues, and the second of the game that would yield a goal. Blues captain David Backes put in the winner on a rebound with just over nine minutes gone in overtime.

But the Stars had their chances on the advantage, too. They just could’t capitalize on Sunday.

"You can't use that as a crutch and you can't use that as an excuse,” Ruff said, per the Dallas Morning News. “Obviously they got the shot. We were down (Alex) Goligoski because he had just blocked a shot. We were basically in a 5-on-3 there for a second and had no support on the rebound. You've got to take the officials out of the equation. We had our power plays and didn't do a good-enough job."

To hear Ruff tell it, there were a couple basic problems with the Stars’ power play on Sunday afternoon.

“We just didn't make good enough decisions,” Ruff said. “We moved it too slow and on some of our entries we were just off. Once we got it established a couple of times, we made some poor decisions.”
