In the coming days, the Dallas Cowboys will make their pitch to defensive end DeMarcus Ware in hopes that Ware will agree to a pay cut. According to a report by Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Ware will listen to the pitch, but expects there to be plenty of suitors out there if he does end up parting ways with the team.
Ware has previously stated that he would be open to restructuring, but not taking a pay cut.
A fan favorite and in all likelihood a future Hall of Famer, a few factors have contributed to the idea that Ware could be cut--which would have been unthinkable just a year ago--including his health, his waning production and the fact that, like always, the Cowboys have painted themselves into a corner where the salary cap is concerned.
Due a base salary of $12.25 million in 2014, Ware is coming off the least productive season of his career, with lows in tackles (40) and sacks (six). He also missed three games with a quad injury, the first time in his career he’s been sidelined due to an injury. He also dealt with a herniated disk in his back and nerve damage in his elbow, the latter of which required surgery.
