Is Jurickson Profar Being Primed For A Call-Up?

Profar has been used sparingly by Double-A Frisco in the past two games

In the days before being called up on August 1, Rangers’ rookie Mike Olt said he had an inkling that he was about to be sent to Arlington, because he played first base in two consecutive games--which the natural third baseman didn’t usually do. Now, the way that Olt’s old club, Double-A Frisco, is using Jurickson Profar has many speculating that the Rangers’ top prospect could be getting the call soon.

Profar hasn’t started either of the Roughriders past two games, but instead has seen some action off the bench. Per Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News, Profar came into Tuesday’s game in the seventh inning; he entered Wednesday’s game as a pinch hitter--which is something the shortstop usually doesn’t do. In fact, it was just Profar’s second career appearance as a pinch hitter.

Pair this with the fact that Texas is looking to add some depth to the middle infield and that rosters expand on Saturday, and we’d be less than terribly surprised if Profar was in a Rangers uniform by the beginning of next week.
