Hurd's Trial to Start April 15

A pretrial conference for Sam Hurd, a former NFL wide receiver who played for the Cowboys and Bears, was held Friday morning in his drug-distribution case.

In the conference, Judge Jorge Solis met with prosecutors and defense attorneys behind closed doors. The outcome of which was the date for Hurd's jury trial has been set to begin April 15 at 8:45 a.m.

Hurd was first arrested in December 2011 outside a Chicago-area steakhouse after agents alleged that he accepted cocaine. He was re-arrested last year after authorities said he tried to buy more drugs and failed two drug tests.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to life in prison.

Hurd, 27, remains at a Dallas-area prison and is being held without bond.
