Having pulled his starting goalie in the first period of Game 6, St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock isn’t sure who will get the start in goal in the Game 7 matchup with the Stars in Dallas on Wednesday.
“I want to sleep on what I’m going to do,” Hitchcock said, per the Dallas Morning News.
It’s not like the first period was all Brian Elliott’s fault, but all the same, he watched three goals go in in the first 17 minutes. He was then pulled in favor of Jake Allen, who was asked to do a whole lot less than Elliott, but saved all seven shots he faced as the Blues tried (and failed) to make a comeback on the other end.
“After we got down a couple there, we dominated the game,” Allen said. “I only had a few shots, didn’t have to do a lot, but just my objective at that point was to give the guys a chance to come back. … Now we’ve got one game left to move on.”
For his part, Allen has all the confidence in the world in Elliott, the man he backs up—should Hitchcock go back to Elliott in Game 7.
“He’s the ultimate pro,” Allen said. “He’ll definitely be ready. He’s been the best player on our team the whole playoffs, and he’ll be ready to go again.”
