The Texas Rangers continued their trend of extending their young pitchers on Wednesday night as they gave Matt Harrison a long-term extension, buying out his arbitration and his early free agency years and meaning he won't be a free agent until possibly 2018, if the Rangers pick up their option.
Harrison is set to make the following in the following seasons, thanks to the great @JameyNewberg:
2013: $5 million
2014: $8 million
2015: $13 million
2016: $13 million
2017: $13 million

2018: Club option for between $13.25 and $15.75 million, depending on Harrison's innings, with a club buyout option for $2 million
It could be said that this is a great bargain for the 26-year-old lefty. Actually, it'd be hard to say otherwise. Harrison was pretty great in 2012, putting up a 3.29 ERA and winning 18 games. In fact, he trailed only Justin Verlander, David Price and Clayton Kershaw in his WAR number, or "wins above replacement," which is a fancy new sabre way to tell how much worth to a team a player actually has.
