Texas A&M finished its non-conference schedule 14-1. Their only loss was to Arizona in Tucson. It was a game that was tight all the way until the final minute or two. The Aggies looked like a team that might challenge Kansas, or at the very least be the second best team in the Big 12.
Kansas State finished it's non-con 10-4. They had no quality wins, and lots of doubt about the team.
Then conference play started and things are looking a lot different. Kansas pulled a big road win at Oklahoma, while A&M looked non-competitive at Texas Tech to let Bob Knight get win 900.
Kansas State made what had been a tight game between themselves and A&M and turned it into a blowout 75-54 win in the final 13 minutes. The Wildcats outscored the Aggies 34-14 in that time.
Michael Beasley and Bill Walker combined for 40 points, but still shared the ball effectively with the rest of their teammates. Coach Frank Martin no longer seems quite so overwhelmed on the sideline, and the team looks more comfortable. K-State is 2-0 in Big 12 play.
Texas A&M, however, suddenly has some questions. They are 0-3 in true road games, and 1-2 in the conference. Most disturbing is that this was the second game where the team faded in the second half.
