Emmitt's Negotiations Were One of the Toughest Challenges: Jerry Jones

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is preparing to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 5. One of the biggest challenges in his career came early when he was going through contract negotiations with future Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith. Smith was without a contract after the Cowboys’ Super Bowl XXVII win and Jones was keeping a tight hold on the purse strings. At that point no team had ever won the Super Bowl after starting 0-2 and Charles Haley threw his helmet into the wall at Texas Stadium he was so mad Smith wasn’t on the field.
