Even before this week, general thought had David Buehler more or less competing against himself in training camp for the place-kicking job--which was true, probably, but it overlooked the presence of Delbert Alvarado, a rookie kicker out of USF. But as of Thursday, Buehler is, in fact, competing against himself, as the only kicker on Dallas's roster.
The Cowboys cut Alvarado on Thursday to make room for Teddy Williams, a project corner who hasn't played football since high school. The justification for the signing: Williams is really, really fast. He focused on track and field at UT San Antonio, posting a 9.90 second 100 meter dash in 2009.
Dallas also swapped an injured defensive end for a healthy one on Thursday, releasing Lorenzo Washington and signing Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, a Texas A&M Kingsville product who spent a short stint this spring with the Chicago Bears. Dallas, as we reported yesterday, was in dire need of bodies along the defensive line, with four of the ten members of the group sidelined with injury.
