Well it won't be at the Cotton Bowl, but bragging rights are still up for grabs this fall -- albeit 50 years late -- when the NFL's Dallas Cowboys finally face the AFL's Dallas Texans. Kind of.
The Texans, who became the Kansas City Chiefs when owner Lamar Hunt moved the franchise north in 1962, will host the Cowboys this Sunday while wearing their legacy Texans uniforms.
The game is part of a 16-game celebration marking the 50th seasons for the eight original American Football League teams. As part of the occasion, the teams will wear historic uniforms -- transporting the Chiefs back to the Texans.
Eleven of the legacy games will be match-ups between the eight original AFL teams -- the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos, the Dallas Texans (now the Kansas City Chiefs), the Boston Patriots (now the New England Patriots), the Titans of New York (now the New York Jets), the Oakland Raiders, the San Diego Chargers and the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans).
The Texans will be wearing a red and white uniform from the 1962 Championship season. The helmet will be red with an outline of the state of Texas.
As should be expected, the NFL will release a "legacy" line of collectibles including jerseys, hats, T-shirts, pennants and more.
So, those Texans fans still lamenting the loss of their team will be able to dress inappropriately for 15 of Kansas City's 16 games this year.
